Wine Sessions - San Michele Appiano

  • San Michele Appiano 0
  • San Michele Appiano 1
  • San Michele Appiano 2
  • San Michele Appiano 3

With the 8th meeting of the new cycle of the Wine Session we discover the wine cellar San Michele Appiano from Alto Adige.

The firm has been founded in 1907 and it is situated on a flat high ground in the earth of the Bolzano province.

The territory with highest altitude is the widest wine-producing district of the Alto Adige region – it extends on a surface of 1.000 hectars – and it is characterised by different soil texture and numerous microclimates.

The vineyards of over 340 business partners of the cellar are dispersed over sunny slopes that are ideal for the production of great wines.

Thanks to the particular atmospheric conditions of the Alto Adige, you can find both white grape such as Pinot Bianco, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon, Pinot Grigio, Müller-Thurgau, Silvaner and Gewürztraminer, and red grapes like Pinot Nero, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Lagrein and various types of Schiava.

The grapes are then transformed into wines with the classic aging techniques in stainless steel, wooden barrels and barriques, granting an important industrial production that allows the sales of 2,5 million bottles a year.

During the dinner you will taste the following wines and the following dishes:

Sauvignon Sanct Valentin 2016
Tuna tartare with crunchy vegetables, edible flowers and capers

Pinot Grigio Sanct Valentin 2015
Risotto with fresh ‘Cipollotti’ onions and cedar

Pinot Nero Sanct Valentin 2013
Thyme barded veal fillet with hop sprouts and potatoes ‘Ratte’

Comtess Sanct Valentin 2016
White chocolate and pistachio mousse with citrus fruits
